I ♥ Wolff Olins

Речь пойдет об агентстве Wolff Olins. Все мы видели логотип Олимпиады Лондон-2012, многие его на дух не переносят (речь не обо мне). Наверное, многие озадаченно смотрят на непонятный логотип компании Wacom. Но именно новый логотип Нью-йоркского такси, по крайней мере, среди жителей Манхеттена, вызывает больше всего негативных эмоций. По известной причине. Забегая вперед, отмечу, что вины Wolff Olins в этом нет.
Новый графический пакет «Такси Нью-Йорка» включает надпись с информацией о тарифах за проезд, стикер NYCTAXI, наклейки с лицензионным номером такси и характерными шашечками.
Должно быть, вы уже читали супермегапосты в разделе «Редакция городских новостей» сайта газеты The New York Times, которые полностью посвящены критике нового логотипа. Там, в частности, объясняется его происхождение. Если вкратце, то история такова. Компания Smart Design работает вместе с общественной организацией Design Trust for Public Space над переосмыслением концепции городского такси. В апреле этого года они выставили результаты работы на Международном автошоу в Нью-Йорке. Редизайн относился к внешнему виду автомобиля. Например, раньше на такси не было букв NYC (New York City – примечание переводчика), не было и буквы T в круге. Сначала появилась буква Т в черном круге после того, как в городской администрации решили, что надпись должна бросаться в глаза. В результате появился знак, очень напоминающий обозначения в метро, хотя Нью-йоркская Комиссия по такси и лимузинам не имеет отношения к системе общественного транспорта Нью-Йорка (Сокр. MTA), за исключением того, что оба занимаются перевозкой людей. Велорикши в Нью-Йорке приравнены к такси, но и они не помещают букву Р в круг (P-первая буква англ. слова “pedicab” – велорикша; примечание переводчика). Наконец, последний роковой шаг, изменивший графический дизайн… Официальная городская туристическая организация NYC & Company попросила, чтобы их новый логотип, который недавно был запущен для рекламирования нашего славного города, красовался и на такси. Вот тут на горизонте и появляется Wolff Olins, попадая под град гнилых помидоров. Так возник этот логотип – плод бесконечной неразберихи городских политиков, несопоставимых идей и отчаянной попытки растворить песок в воде.
В адрес логотипа высказывались все существующие ругательства; он был разбит в пух и прах. По большому счету, вся вина за это возлагалась на Wolff Olins и их «позорный» логотип. А на самом деле, если и обвинять кого-то, так это компанию Smart Design, которая хоть и выполняла работу на общественных началах, но не смогла привести своих клиентов к взаимовыгодному решению. Именно Smart Design должна отвечать за эту ужасную, уродливую привязку Т к кружочку, (а AXI смотрится совсем отдельно), и последующую привязку этих двух элементов к NYC от Wolff Olins. Люди не обратили внимания, что эти элементы разрабатывались в рамках различных проектов и для различных клиентов, а вместо этого подчеркивали, что логотип в целом – это дьявольское изобретение. Стыдно. Стыдно потому, что логотип NYC, как мне кажется, – это лучшее из того, что было в Нью-Йорке (с точки зрения графики). Лучшее из признаний в своей любви к городу.

Логотип NYC разрабатывался для компании NYC & Company, которая сформировалась по инициативе мэра Майкла Блумберга в результате слияния трех организаций: NYC & Company, NYC Big Events и NYC Marketing. Уже обсуждалось, что каждому городу нужен свой логотип. Какой же образ Нью-Йорка? Многогранный, громкий, разнообразный, изобильный, изменчивый город, в котором первые 5 кварталов отличаются от следующих пяти кварталов, и так до бесконечности. Сможет ли шрифт sans serif передать эту гамму оттенков? А любой другой шрифт? А (с изумлением!) пиктограмма? Возможно, что какое-либо из этих решений и сработало бы. Но ни одно из них не будет столь запоминающимся, столь полным жизни, духа и своеобразия Нью-Йорка, каким является этот логотип.
Бесконечное число вариаций с буквами NYC
Как человек, горячо любящий свой город, я не мог бы придумать более смелого решения. Разработаны постеры и анонсы для рекламной кампании по привлечению туристов в город – 50 миллионов гостей ежегодно к 2015 году (здорово, так как я живу в Бруклине). Но я отошел от темы. Оставим красивые картинки. Этот логотип олицетворяет Нью-Йорк сразу в нескольких аспектах. Строгая привязка к графической сетке воплощает структуру города (если вы умеете считать, вы не заблудитесь в нем); массивность букв символизирует мощь Нью-Йорка как центра культуры, искусств, политики и спорта; стесненность букв – это тяжкое напоминание о том, как мало места в городе, но как полноценно мы наслаждаемся жизнью и процветанием плечом к плечу с людьми; возможность вставки внутрь букв любого образа символизирует открытость и как бы пробуждает в человеке желание пройти свой собственный путь, оставить свой след в жизни. Поэтому, даже если одним из его недостатков является то, что он не смотрится рядом с бездарным дизайном, разработанным кем-то, создание логотипа NYC дает полное право Wolff Olins взять небольшую паузу и передохнуть. Они это заслужили.

I would claim that most of us site visitors are truly endowed to live in a magnificent website with very many brilliant people with beneficial hints.
